INTRODUCTION
Yooper Carbon Credits exists to provide audited carbon credits for the private and public markets.
Many private individuals choose to purchase carbon credits to offset their carbon usage due to their lifestyle. For instance, if an individual commutes to work in a Gulfstream 650, they can reduce their carbon guilt by purchasing carbon credits equivalent to their aircraft's carbon generation.
By law the European Union has a carbon credit trading system for industry. Soon the United States will also have a cap-and-trade system, according to the announced goals of President Obama.
The inspiration for this project was a news article about a planned carbon tax for cattle based on their greenhouse gas emissions (Carbon Dioxide and Methane).

METHODOLOGY
A published study indicates that beef cattle generate 4 tonnes of greenhouse gasses per head. A carbon tax has been proposed to offset the greenhouse emissions of beef cattle.
If herbivores generate greenhouse gasses, then it follows logically that removing herbivores from the environment will reduce greenhouse emissions. These must not be domestic herbivores, as domestic herbavores have a human footprint. Eating more meat only means that more cattle are grown. What is needed is a natural population of herbivores which can be removed in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In Michigan we have just such a population: Whitetail deer (Odocoileus Virginianus Borealis). These are naturally occurring herbivores that are large enough to emit a significant amount of greenhouse gasses (can you imagine how many rabbits you would have to harvest for 1 tonne of carbon???).
Based on the published greenhouse gas output of beef cattle (4 tonnes per year) and an assumption that the physiology is roughly proportional to size, we can establish a typical greenhouse emission for the whitetail population.
The weight difference is approximately 8:1, with a "ready for market" weight of 1200 pounds ( 544.32 kg for you Europeans who are forced to trade carbon credits) for beef cattle and a typical whitetail weight of 150 pounds (68.04kg).
Therefore, if one cow generates 4 tonnes, two whitetail generate one tonne of greenhouse emissions per annum. This is the basis for the assigned carbon credits available through this website.
As first person to publish this concept (Patent Pending) and a resident in good standing with the State of Michigan, I hereby claim the right to market all of the carbon reduction from the annual harvest of whitetails in Michigan.

AUDITING
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (you do trust the government, don't you?), the total deer harvest for 2008 was 272,000.
Based on a two deer per ton rate, Yooper Carbon Credits L.L.C. commits to sell a maximum of 160,000 tonnes of carbon credits for 2009. Credits in future years will likewise be limited to the actual deer harvest in the preceding year. In this way we assure that all clients receive the actual carbon reduction that they have purchased.
